Three years ago today, at 4:10pm, our sweet boy Bennett James was born!. We waited a long time for him to come into the world, but he decided to stay put for a whole two weeks until I had to be induced. :) I thought he would be coming early....but he was cozy inside mom's tummy. We loved bringing home our sweet baby. He loved snuggles and sleeping in our arms. Bennett was a good nurser and such a happy baby.
Bennett made his big debut on April 18, 2013 at 4:10pm. He weighed 6 lbs, 15 oz. He came just in time to make all our broken hearts a little happier after my mom's death.

The boy who made me a Momma!
At one year old, Bennett was already showing us his future personality! He was smart, silly, loving, and active! :)
I felt like Ben was big at 2, but now he looks like a baby to me in these pictures!!! At two Bennett was still silly, smart, loving, and active...but now he was also a BIG BROTHER! And he is the BEST big brother! :)
At three years old, Bennett talks really well. He understands a lot and picks up on EVERYTHING. If I'm crabby and respond in a mad voice, he will say, "Mommy! Stop yelling at me!" :-p Bennett loves puzzles, books, Eleanor, being outside, TV, and going places. He loves Little Lambs at church and is really excited to start Children and Worship soon. His best friends are Mason and Ethan, but he loves playdates with any of his friends! We are so blessed to have lots of friends whose moms also stay home so we have lots of playdates. He loves giving his friends hugs when he sees them.
Bennett also loves story time at the library, the zoo, gymnastics open gym, and eating at restaurants (Culvers and Panera are his favorites). He LOVES snacks but isn't great at eating the family dinner, and we pretty much have to force him to eat a minimum number of bites each meal. Dinner foods he does eat fairly well are tacos and pizza. He is not a big fan of meat or veggies but loves cheese and fruit. When playing, Bennett can pretend and imagine things now, like, "Let's go exploring! I see an owl over there!" And he'll shine his flashlight up on the ceiling. He's pretty good at sharing with Eleanor but lately I think he's gotten a little less patient (maybe as she gets older and more interested in what he's playing with). He loves to "get Eleanor up" from naps and bed. He wants to be the first to run in her room, turn on the lamp, and he'll coo, "Hi sweetie girl!"
At 3, Bennett sleeps 7:30pm-6am most days, but he has to stay in bed until his light turns on with a timer, which happens at 6:30am. He's really good at waiting. He is 100% potty trained day and night, and we recently converted his crib to a toddler bed which is going really well. He occasionally wakes around 2am crying and often goes potty, then back to sleep. He naps most days still but some days skips a nap. When he naps it's usually 1.5-2 hours, at the same time as Eleanor.
Bennett loves TV, and his favorite shows are Wonderpets, Daniel Tiger, Paw Patrol, and Go Diego Go. He still also loves singing, especially in the car or when going to sleep/waking up. Right now he's big into the Little Critter books, and before that he was into the Llama Llama and the How Do Dinosaurs... series. We read books before every nap/rest time and bedtime. He's also into playing some games - we have Hi Ho Cherry O and Hungy Hungry Hippos. He loves Hide and Go Seek and is getting pretty good at hiding lately, but he does still sometimes hide in the same spot over and over. :) We say prayers before bed and he loves to pray for us getting all better (we had a rough winter with sicknesses/colds!:)), and for God to bless everyone he knows (he lists all the people... "And - who else? Missy, Kyle, Cooper....").
We've definitely had our share of toddler tantrums and moodiness lately, but overall Bennett is a a really sweet boy. He LOVES an audience and if everyone is watching him he will get silly and be a goofball. He is still on his seizure medicine twice a day (and will be for at least another year), but he has been doing great. We are so thankful to God for this!!! Next year, Bennett will start 3K at Brookfield Christian School, which is three mornings a week. Eleanor and I will surely miss him on those mornings but we know he is SO READY for school and he will love it and do so well! :) I would say this birthday is going to be the most fun yet because Bennett knows it's his birthday and understands what that means now. We won't be having his family party until April 30, but he's chosen his favorite dinner of tacos tonight, and he's fully expecting a cake (because to a 3 year old you must have cake if it's your birthday!).
Happy birthday, sweet boy! We love you so much!
