ER Scare

On Thursday I got a frantic call from our sitter at lunch saying that she thought Bennett had a seizure!  Thankfully she lives only a few blocks from work so I was there within minutes.  Pretty much this is what happened: She was making lunch and Bennett was sitting in the exersaucer playing.  She heard him start doing a weird breathing pattern and then looked and he was a little hunched over in the seat.  She picked him up and made sure he wasn't choking - he wasn't.  He was breathing and his color was normal.  She made sure his heart was beating - it was.  The weird thing is that he wasn't really responding - like no affect.  His eyes were open, but he wasn't babbling, smiling, talking, or responding and making eye contact.  

By the time I got there he was slowly improving, but he did not run to me, reach for me, or smile when I came in.  I could tell something was wrong.  I called Brad and we both called the doctor's office.  The nurse recommended heading to Children's.  By the time we got there Bennett was back to normal, other than being more fussy than usual, which might have been because by this time he missed a nap and lunch.  The ER crew checked him over and since he was back to normal and all vitals were fine, they decided to send us home with orders to schedule an outpatient EEG.  This will tell us if he has any type of seizure disorder.  The ER crew and our doctor said although it sounds most like a seizure, they couldn't say for sure that he had one.  It could have been something else.  The ER doctor said a heart arrhythmia could have caused similar results, and it also could have just been a random, weird thing.  

Bennett's doctor called us to check up on Friday, and said the seizure wouldn't have been caused by the shots he'd had the day before (which was what we thought).  She said vaccines do sometimes cause seizures but only with a super high fever, which Bennett didn't have.  So it was pretty scary, and we're worried about WHY he had a seizure (if that's indeed what happened).  Unfortunately we're scheduled for an EEG at the end of May.  In the meantime, we're praying that our healthy boy stays that way, with no more strange episodes.  So far he's been totally normal and happy since Thursday.  We ask for your prayers!!!
