Adventures in Baby Food

With Bennett nearing 6 months, I got the urge to start making baby food!  I made just a few things...it only lasts in the freezer for a month or so.  But it's crazy how much food one or two vegetables make!  My sister Missy helped me and it was pretty easy.  We steamed each veggie separately, then used an immersion hand blender to puree it.  I made carrots, butternut squash, acorn squash, and sweet potato.   I also bought an organic applesauce to try and I'm going to puree some pears and an avocado when they ripen!  I'm kind of obsessed - it's fun! :)

We were going to wait until exactly 6 months, but gave in and decided to try it tonight (5 days early)...We started because he has not been sleeping through the night, and we're kind of hoping the extra nutrition helps fill his little belly a bit longer.  We'll see if it helps at all!

We started with sweet potato mixed with a little EBM.  I have been going back-and-forth about whether to do rice cereal, and for now I'm not.  I'll see what the doctor thinks when we see her next week.  The only benefit at this age is the added iron...

We knew Bennett was ready because he eyes up EVERYTHING we eat.  He's constantly trying to grab our food (although to be fair he grabs everything lately).  Also we've practice giving him a spoon the past week or so and he seemed to know just what to do!

And.....he did a pretty good job!

Brad's wearing a teething toy here, not a bracelet. haha.

Overall he did great!  He wasn't too sure of it, but he got a little down in his tummy.

The aftermath!  Not too bad!  A simple wet rag took care of it all.  :)

So fun, but he seems soooo big now!
